As we head into November, many of us NaNoWriMo writers are trying to come up with some sort of plot, or even just the tiniest little seed of an idea which we can water carefully, nurture and feed as it grows into a blossom, and then try to wring fifty thousand words out of it as if it were a recalcitrant sponge.

Gaiman's essay isn't so much on the creative process itself as what he and other people think about it, but it's an interesting read, and does contain a few starting points if you need them.

So, I've heard from some of you, but... what's your plot/idea this year? My goal is to get the first story arc of Pyrlogos completely plotted and scripted, and have outlines of varying detail for the next two or three arcs.

I had to google NaNoWriMo and I'm in awe. I don't think I have the time to do it, since my active goals are more about fitness, but I am so tempted to join.

I constantly have ideas, but never do anything with them. I obsess for a month or two about a fictional world, then discard it when it doesn't spit out. Granted, most of the time I realized "wow this is shitty" and its most definitely always some form of science fiction which seems tough to begin with.

Anyway, are you going to take the plunge and try it?

I guess i could finally write about the Emperor Sargosa. That was by far the most in depth day dream I ever followed. I even made that shitty 494 video game about it!

Hmm... tempting

Well, in 2005 I finished 50,000 words, but with a plot that wasn't really going anywhere. I liked the characters, though.

Like in 2006, I'm going to set an accomplishment goal instead of a word goal this year, since I'm not really working on a novel - I want to plot out a certain portion of my upcoming webcomic, Pyrlogos.

that makes sense. use the timeline as a definitive deadline, but for a different project.

think i could get a playable version of a webapp that i haven't started yet out in a month, while learning php at the same time? (i don't' know if i'm serious)
