Statistics are amusing sometimes...

"Statistics indicate that one out of four Americans will contract a STD during their lifetime..."

and then, in the next paragraph:

"...23 percent, nearly a fourth, never use condoms for vaginal sex, the survey found."

well, now. HMMMM.

*snort*

From the article: Despite the risks and prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases, Allen said one of the most alarming findings in the study was adults' lack of communication about the topic. [...] And while adults are making potentially fatal assumptions about their partners, they are also refraining from talking to medical professionals about STDs because of the stigma of appearing promiscuous or unclean.

Ahhh, nothing like reaping the joys of years' upon years' worth of abstinence-only education initiatives. Sex is dirty, kids, so you better not have it! But if you do, you should *especially* not talk to anyone about it, because then they'll think you're a slut. And everyone knows only gays and minorities get STDs...not clean, God-fearing white folk.

Your tax dollars at work!

gee..think that 23% that never use condoms are the ones who are contacting the STD's?

oooh, and then there's *this* gem.... 84 percent -- of the survey respondents said they take necessary steps to prevent catching an STD, but 82 percent of the sexually active participants said they never use barrier protection when having oral sex.

altho... *puts on human development hat* i do need to point out that t is in fact possible for the percentages to equal more than 100%, or even less, because of people woh check more than one box and people who don't check any box at all. it's also possible that they threw out those surveys or incomplete surveys, so out of the 1,155 people *given* the survey, the might only have had 1,000 they actually used for the statistics. god, i love human development statistics.

BLASPHEMERS!

Use a barrier durring oral sex!? WTF is the A.M.A. (american medical association)thinking!?
Pretty soon ANY sex, even for procreation will be "BAD" according to these white-coated freaks.
Rules to avoid danger;
1)Random sex with strangers is risky, even without the STD's, just cuz ya never know when you might find a real twisto.
2)Get tested, and make sure your potential partner is clean.
3)Condoms are not 100% effective against all STD's. In fact, several varieties of STD completely by-pass condoms. Again; be careful who you sleep with.

I wonder; are these bible thumping life-denying freaks ever gonna get their shit-brained heads out of the 18th. century curch ordained life-style

Re: BLASPHEMERS!

Je'excuse...
I tend to go off on Dennis Learly styled rants any time I hear the A.M.A. go on about 'absitence is the only way'.
My appologies for cutting loose >;-)...this time.
