Darth Paradox
[mood |lovedloved]

She got me chocolates (specifically picking out a box without nuts!) and a little Japanese puzzle box with some stones in it, and a card.

The card had a URL in it, which went to a webpage with another, virtual card, which had "inside" it some ciphertext. After working out the plaintext, the resulting (rhyming!) message... well, I'll let you work it out for yourself:

Bidyd qby byx,
Jvicyfd qby tcgy,
Fbqrdcqfy fovd hyddqly
Zib sqbf iry iz fki:
Egdf ciiu tyfkvmf
Foy cyffybd Z qrx A.

Eee. Sora wrote me a puzzle for Valentine's Day. And it's a good one, too. I love her so much.

Anyway! I made her a couple pairs of earrings. One pair is blue d8s, and the other pair is black percentile dice. I also got her some red fuzzy d20s for her car.

Be it for you Valentine's Day, or Viking Day, or V-Day, or just a plain old Tuesday, I hope it was a good one.

Also, I made dice earrings for Jen for Christmas. a pair of blue d10s. I imagine you got the idea from the same place I did.

Maybe, maybe not. I saw some in an online store, linked to from somewhere (probably BoingBoing), and couldn't buy them because they were out, so I decided to make my own...

(spoiler, highlight to read)

I've translated the plaintext, but I don't quite get the reference. What's betwixt the letters F and Q?

At any rate, it was a really cool idea. Kudos to her!

Keep a record of the cipher key.

That bit took me the longest, too - I used an online java applet that didn't keep track of the cipher key...

I did it by hand... I guess it's possible I made a mistake, but the text worked out in a sensical way.

Heehee, thank you very much!

In response to your spoiler, directions to the solution; highlight to read:

Write out a plaintext alphabet, and, below it, the cryptogram's alphabet. The message itself is in the cryptogram's alphabet, between plaintext letters F and Q. :)

Anyway, I'm glad you liked. :D

(spoilertext)

That's what I thought, but the only thing I get between F and Q is UMOVWGX?H (or TUMOVWGX?H?A if you include the F and the Q). I can't make sense of that. It's possible I made a mistake somewhere with the translation.

Here's how I translated the poem:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue
Translate this message
For part one of two:
Just look betwixt
The letters F and Q.

Try sorting by cipher letter instead of by plain letter, and maybe it'll work out.

Ah, that did it! I could have sworn I'd already tried it that way, but oh well. Thanks.
